Looking for a place where endless streams of laughter, lively chats, smiling faces, and the smell of good food greet you at the door? Blackwall Barn & Lodge in Gambrills is the kind of place you want to be after a long stressful day on the job—an upscale dining affair with a homegrown feel. When you add in good food to the mixture, it comes as no surprise that the tickets for their upcoming Wild Game Dinner sold out quickly.
Barn & Lodge owner, James King, and head chef, Chef Neal, came up with the great idea to have a Wild Game Dinner on October 17,2019 at 7:00 pm. Because this restaurant is farm-to-table, this dinner is a great way to feature some of the best games and farm-fresh foods Autumn has to offer. The Wild Game Dinner will include a five-course meal. Each course is paired with a sampling of a different North American wine. Dinner begins with the first course of Rabbit Leg Lollipops with cream corn and maple bourbon glaze and finishes with a Sour Cherry and Chocolate Trifle paired with a Terra D Oro Zinfandel Port wine.
If you are not one of the lucky fifty to be dining at this year’s Wild Game Dinner, don’t fret. On Saturday, November 2nd, 2019 Blackwall Barn & Lodge will be celebrating its one-year anniversary with a party for the ages. The celebration will include live music from the party band, Nightlife—and for those who want to let loose and have a good time, there will be an open bar, drink stations, and endless passed appetizers. Of course, an anniversary celebration is not complete without a slew of food and desserts. There will be plenty of both at the many food stations. The Wild Game Dinner and anniversary celebration are for adults only. Tickets for the anniversary celebration are $135 per guest.
James King transformed the 1947 home-bar-pizzeria combination into what we see today—the Blackwall Barn & Lodge. From the ambient lighting to the rustic decor the entire restaurant is inviting and comfortable. You are surrounded by an array of beautiful artistry; including a golden horse-head mount and hanging wagon wheel chandeliers.
According to Alissa, the Assistant General Manager, the Blackwall Barn & Lodge family prides themselves on providing a great guest experience. The restaurant seeks to be family-oriented. It features a game room that seats 12 to 14 guests, as well as a cottage for brides to prepare for their wedding day. There is even valet parking for those who just want to get straight to the farm-to-table fresh food without the hassle of finding parking.
My husband and I love good people and good food. The attentive serving staff made our first time dining a one of a kind experience. From the supervisor Henry ensuring that we had a safe place for our 3-month old in his car seat to Alissa bringing hot water for me to warm his bottle, the entire staff was friendly and more than accommodating.
The Barn & Lodge menu consists of many gourmet dishes, from seafood to filet mignon. However, if you are into comfort food the menu has you covered, plus you still receive gourmet taste and presentation. Compliments of Chef Neal, we began our meal with a delicate Pancetta Soup with Parmesan.
We chose comfort food for our first visit. In true Maryland fashion, my husband chose the classic Crab Cake Handheld. Of course, I had to sample a bit of his crab cake, which was just as succulent and flavorful as it looked. Being more of a southerner, I tried the Fried Chicken and Waffles. The chicken was delectably breaded and perfectly moist, and the Apple-Cinnamon Waffles with the Pumpkin Maple Syrup were so fluffy and delicious.
